About Segways
The Segway PT (Personal Transporter) is battery powered and uses technology called dynamic stabilisation to maintain balance and move forward and backwards

The Segway is self balancing with a Lean Steer Frame and has four sensors under the mats on the base which detect the presence or absence of a rider when the Segway is powered on.

Importantly, you don’t balance the Segway, it balances you, and moves forwards, backwards, left and right according to the movements of your body.

Segways are very manoeuvrable and can turn on the spot as the wheels can rotate in opposite directions.

The maximum speed achievable on a Segway is 12.5 mph, but for training your speed will be limited to a slower ‘tortoise’ mode.

Segways are an environmentally friendly form of powered travel as the lithium-ion batteries of our X2’s can travel up to 12 miles on a single charge costing only a few pence and there is no noise pollution either as they have very quiet motors.

Segways are not legal for road use in the UK and can only be used on private property with the owners permission.

We use the Segway X2 which is a more rugged version of the new second generation machines with turf tyres idea for our conditions.

The Segway is a very safe machine to use if handled correctly and if the training advice is followed, however, there are risks and in accordance with our insurance requirements and standard safety procedures we do require you to dress appropriately and to wear a safety helmet which will be provided.
